Story- The product articulates traditional craftsmanship by the hands of local artisans coming from Jhargram District in West Bengal, India. A group of skilled women artisans bring the product to life, aligning meaning with utility. The shared awareness inspires them towards a holistic approach to livelihood making. Devoid of basic opportunities, these women strive for self-realization of immediate goals, thereby, adding value to the life of urban users.
Their sense of ownership is beautifully reflected in their art. The product is an outcome of determined hard-work over a period of 3-4 days. The chain of processes involved signify the fortitude artisans put in. The utility is alleviated by the usage of unadulterated colors, free from chemical influence. A “must add” to the urban front of a modern household.
About the Artisan Group- - The artisan cluster is headed by Surjo Kanta Bolai, an experienced artisan, who aspires to engage people with his craft. A willing and skilled craft-man, he commands the network of finely tuned processes that range from unbundling and clearing of sabai grass, drying, coloring and retention, drying again, braiding and then put to use.The trade resides within the rural communities of Jhargram district of West Bengal, India.
He supports his circle comprising mostly women who work as per their inclination, dispersing the work timings into shifts. He believes that his work has empowered him and others who object submission to fate, identifying and realizing opportunities come what may.
